How to turn your run into an Instagram Reel
A finish-line selfie and a map screenshot tell people you ran. A short video of the route, flown over the actual hills, shows them what it was like. Here's how to make one in a few minutes and post it so it looks right.

1. Get the activity into Relic
Sign in and connect Strava, or upload a GPX file. Here's how to export one from your watch.
2. Make the flyover
Pick the activity and open The Flyover. Relic builds a 9:16 video of about 28 seconds: a camera chasing your line over 3D terrain, kilometre splits and landmarks as you pass them, a pull-back reveal of the whole route and a stats card at the end. Download the MP4. More on flyover videos.
3. Post it
- Size: Reels are 9:16 (1080×1920). The flyover is already that shape, so nothing gets cropped.
- Sound: add a track inside Instagram rather than baking music into the file; Instagram's licensed audio keeps the Reel from being muted.
- Cover: pick a frame from the pull-back, when the whole route is visible.
- Caption: lead with the story (the climb, the weather, the PB), then the numbers. Relic writes a starting caption you can edit.
- Tags: tag the race, the club and the place. Location tags help people who ran the same route find you.
Want a still for the feed too?
The same activity makes 1:1 and 4:5 posters. Post the Reel first, then a carousel with the poster and your photos.
Questions
Under 30 seconds is the sweet spot for activity videos: long enough to show the route, short enough that people watch to the end. The Relic flyover is about 28 seconds.
Yes. Both use the same 9:16 vertical format.
