Pace calculator
Running pace calculator
Enter any two of distance, time and pace, and get the third. Works in kilometres or miles.
How to use it
- Find pace: you know the distance and your finish time, and want your average pace per km or mile.
- Find time: you have a target pace, and want the finish time it gives over a distance.
- Find distance: you ran for a set time at a known pace, and want to know how far you went.
Times can be typed as h:mm:ss (1:45:00), m:ss (25:30) or plain minutes (45).
Pace, speed and effort
Pace is time per distance (minutes per km); speed is distance per time (km/h). Runners think in pace, cyclists in speed. The calculator shows both. Pace on its own ignores hills and heat: a 6:00 /km on a steep trail can be harder than 5:00 /km on the flat. That's why Relic's running analysis uses grade-adjusted pace and heart rate to compare runs fairly.
Questions
Divide your time by your distance. A 10 km run in 50 minutes is 50 ÷ 10 = 5 minutes per kilometre, written 5:00 /km. The calculator does this for any distance and also shows your average speed.
5:41 per kilometre (9:09 per mile) gets you to 21.1 km in just under two hours. Choose Find time, pick the half-marathon preset and try paces around that to see your margin.
GPS cuts and adds corners, and few runners take the perfect racing line, so watches usually read 1–2% long in races. Pace off the official distance when planning a target time.
